Description

Create magical Cauldron Cookies, the perfect Halloween treat for kids. These cookies are fun to decorate, featuring a chocolate cookie base, a cauldron-shaped chocolate truffle, and colorful ‘potion’ toppings. They are a delightful blend of crafting and baking, ideal for parties, goodie bags, or a festive fall activity.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos)
  • 1 bag mini peanut butter cups or chocolate truffles (for cauldron base)
  • 1 bag black candy melts or chocolate chips
  • 1 tube green icing or frosting (for bubbling potion effect)
  • Assorted Halloween sprinkles (bones, eyes, stars, etc.)
  • Mini M&Ms, Nerds, or small candy balls (for magical ingredients)
  • Optional: gummy worms, edible glitter, black licorice laces

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by lining a tray with parchment paper and setting out bowls of sprinkles and candies.
  2. Melt the black candy melts or chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 20 seconds until smooth.
  3. Dip the bottom of a mini peanut butter cup into the melted chocolate and place it in the center of a chocolate sandwich cookie to create the cauldron base.
  4. Use a spoon or piping bag to add a swirl of green icing on top of the peanut butter cup, resembling a bubbling potion.
  5. Let children decorate the potion with Halloween sprinkles, candy eyeballs, bones, stars, and other chosen toppings to create their own unique magical brew.
  6. Allow the Cauldron Cookies to set at room temperature or chill for 10 minutes until the chocolate and icing are firm.
  7. Serve the finished Cauldron Cookies immediately or package them in treat bags for school-safe snacks.

Notes

  • For nut-free school treats, use nut-free chocolate bases and candies.
  • Black licorice laces or pretzels dipped in black candy coating can be used as cauldron handles.
  • Encourage free decorating; each cookie will be unique.
  • Cauldron Cookies can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container for 3-4 days.
  • Freezing is not recommended as decorations may melt or change texture upon thawing.
