Description

Authentic & Crispy Scotch Eggs for Medieval Feasts and Hobbit Meals

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large eggs
  • Ice water (for cooling)
  • 1 lb pork sausage meat (or ground turkey/chicken)
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp ground mustard
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko recommended)
  • Vegetable oil (2–3 inches deep for frying)

Instructions

  1. Place eggs in a saucepan, cover with cold water, and bring to a boil. Simmer 6–7 minutes for soft yolks or 9–10 for firm. Transfer to ice bath, cool, and peel.
  2. Combine sausage, thyme, mustard, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Divide into six portions.
  3. Flatten one sausage portion, place an egg in the center, and shape to cover completely.
  4. Roll each in flour, dip in beaten eggs, then coat with breadcrumbs. Double dip for extra crunch if desired.
  5. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry 5–6 minutes until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  6. Air fry at 375°F for 10–12 minutes or bake at 400°F for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway through.
