Authentic & Crispy Scotch Eggs for Medieval Feasts and Hobbit Meals
Ingredients

- 6 large eggs
- Ice water (for cooling)
- 1 lb pork sausage meat (or ground turkey/chicken)
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1 tsp ground mustard
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko recommended)
- Vegetable oil (2–3 inches deep for frying)
Instructions
- Place eggs in a saucepan, cover with cold water, and bring to a boil. Simmer 6–7 minutes for soft yolks or 9–10 for firm. Transfer to ice bath, cool, and peel.
- Combine sausage, thyme, mustard, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Divide into six portions.
- Flatten one sausage portion, place an egg in the center, and shape to cover completely.
- Roll each in flour, dip in beaten eggs, then coat with breadcrumbs. Double dip for extra crunch if desired.
- Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry 5–6 minutes until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- Air fry at 375°F for 10–12 minutes or bake at 400°F for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway through.
