Ingredients
Scale
- 3 medium-sized Apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter
- 1 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 2 large Eggs
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 1/2 cup Milk
Instructions
- Prepare the apples by peeling, coring, and slicing them into thin wedges, about 1/4-inch thick.
- In a medium saucepan, melt unsalted butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar and cinnamon, stirring until bubbly and smooth, about 3–5 minutes.
- Pour the warm caramel into a greased 9-inch round cake pan, then layer the apple slices over the caramel in a circular pattern.
- In one bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another, cream sugar with eggs until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and milk, then fold in dry ingredients.
- Pour cake batter evenly over the apples and caramel. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 40 minutes.
- Once baked, cool the cake in the pan for about 10 minutes, then carefully invert onto a serving plate.
