Description

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 cup Milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples by peeling, coring, and slicing them into thin wedges, about 1/4-inch thick.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt unsalted butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar and cinnamon, stirring until bubbly and smooth, about 3–5 minutes.
  3. Pour the warm caramel into a greased 9-inch round cake pan, then layer the apple slices over the caramel in a circular pattern.
  4. In one bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another, cream sugar with eggs until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and milk, then fold in dry ingredients.
  5. Pour cake batter evenly over the apples and caramel. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 40 minutes.
  6. Once baked, cool the cake in the pan for about 10 minutes, then carefully invert onto a serving plate.
